What is a Common School?

A common school district is a school district first created by legislative action in 1812 to operate elementary schools (Kindergarten through eight grade). Even though they lack legal authority to operate a high school, common school districts remain responsible for ensuring a secondary education for their resident children. Abraham Wing School is a "common school district" . There are only a handful of common schools in New York State.


Is Abraham Wing School a Public School or a Private School?

Abe-Wing is a public school.

Our Mission Statement:
We, the members of the Abraham Wing School Community, are committed to providing a safe environment for developing motivated, lifelong learners who value themselves and others, contribute in a positive way to their community and are productinve citizens in an ever-changing society.


Why does the school have two names?

Glens Falls Common School is the name of the school district. Abraham Wing School is the name of the school building or location within the school district. It just happens that we have only one school building in our district.
